La Grotta/The Cave
Mock-up installation for 39th Marmomacc, Veronafiere, Verona, Italy, October 2004
Based on innovative design and manufacturing techniques applied to a complex 3D-stone surface. The mock-up in scale 1:1 is a fragment of the cladding surface (alternating green and stone finish) of the project La Grotta in Verona. The façade mock-up is composed of a custom designed steel lattice structure, particular designed steel brackets, and Nembro Stones, CNC milled with honed finish. All structural layers afforded solid 3D modelling during the design, manufacturing and installation process. The design project and pioneering manufacturing process of 3D stone cladding was already presented to the public during the symposium Pixel and Marble at Veronafiere in 2003.
