Piazza Cittadella.
The Urban Interface of the New Millennium
International Design Competition, Verona, Italy, 1999
Today Piazza Cittadella is a place of intense traffic streams. In the past it was called “platea glarea” (Latin for “Piazza of little soft white river-stones”). The project encloses, in its rugosity, impressions of antique creases and retraces the smooth undulations of the former river Adigetto. Existing and proposed infrastructures such as intermodal traffics, are interwoven in the new Piazza-hub on different surface levels reinforcing the interactivity with the city. The concept of flows and density is delineated through 4 dynamic elements: traffic flows, material flows, information flow and the density of events.
